Take Ivy – reprinted

Take Ivy, reprinted

Take Ivy

If one book has had an enormous impact on men’s fashion in recent years, it’s this one: “Take Ivy” – a photographic documentary of the ivy league style at American universities in the 1960s. Originally only available in Japan – printed and re-printed in very low quantities – it sold for around $1000 as a collector’s item. This summer, powerHouse Books will re-issue Take Ivy. It’s already up on Amazon.com for pre-order.

Damien Hirst - Pill Cufflinks

Other Criteria is the website that you can go to when you’d like to spend money but don’t know on what exactly. This online shop holds a wide selection of original artworks, books and all sorts of merchandise from contemporary artists such as Gary Hume, Tracy Emin, Ed Ruscha, Banksy, amongst many others. My favourite items: the Jeff Koons beach towel, these cufflinks and the Richard Prince book “Four Cowboys” that will also be released as a signed edition soon.

Horween Leather

Horween, since 1905

Horween, since 1905

My last post, which was far too long ago, was about a great pair of leather boots that I had just received. I have since then put them to the test and with Berlin covered in snow for a week now, I must say that they held up pretty well. If not mistaken, the leather used on them is from an American tannery called “Horween” which I’d like to point out to you today. Take a look, find out some interesting facts about how their leathers are treated and then also see which manufacturers are using this material… It’s of an amazing quality – I can attest to that!

Visvim Decoy Duck Mid-Folk

Visvim Decoy Duck Mid-Folk

Visvim Decoy Duck Mid-Folk

When I was an exchange student in New Hampshire back in 1991/1992 I thought that the people wearing those duck boots were, well, a bit ‘back-country’ (some of them wore them to go hunting – with bow an arrow for example). Strangely enough, they have grown on me ever since then. Flash forward to 2009 and I can call myself a proud owner of a pair myself. Not sure whether it’s because Visvim has re-designed it a bit, or whether my taste just changed (to the better, I hope…) but as much as I didn’t like them 17 years ago I do like them now. Let’s see what I start liking next…
